Sie werden für räumlich durch Koordinaten definierte Felder erteilt bzw. verliehen. Bei Flächen unter Bergaufsicht (§ 69 Abs. 1 Bundesberggesetz) unterliegt die Aufsicht über diese Flächen der zuständigen Behörde (LBGR).
